When taking the lifter off could you use one of those magnet pens? I would think it would take the lifter with the shim so you dont have to worry about dropping it.
Any takers? |
Thats what i used to get the bucket off i dont think the magnectic part helped keep the valve shim in though i think just the oil kept it stuck to the bucket.

I have not checked my valves yet but it looks like a pain in the butt. My 87 mojave 250 is super easy. Once the cam cover is off, you only need a screw driver and wrench to adjust the cam's. I don't understand why kawasaki just didn't stay with the same design. Now the cam's need to come out!

So, here are a few dumb questions. Maybe this should be a new thread?
1. Where do you buy shim's from? Dealer? 2. Do you buy them single or do you get every one available in a package. The last thing I want to do is check my valve clearances, and then have to wait for the right ones. If your able to buy an entire selection of them that would be great. I'm still a long way's from checking. My bike only has 1800 miles, and I think the manual says to check at 7500 miles. |

I picked up a "Hot Cams" kit off of E-Bay you want the 7.48mm Was less than $100 as I recall. But not much less. You can get single cames from your dealer but you have to be confident they will have them in stock and will be open when you decide what you want. Kit was worth the investment for me considering where I live. Cheers Jim |

WOW! Very nice. Any problems that have come up for you in those 20,000? Or just routine maintenance?
I like seeing people with 20,000+ makes me feel my bike will last a very long time |
Im at about 10,500 right now.

I could use (4) 3.00 shims. Mine are 3.05 and its on the lower limit.
