Default 2006 KLX250S fork valve stack/part

At the very bottom of the forks for the KLX250S is the valve assembly - part number 49116-1168. It is the same place where you adjust the compression damping for the front forks. I believe it is where the valve stack is for the compression valving. I understand there is no way to re-valve the rebound on these forks as that circuit is sealed or not able to be changed, at least not easily.

So.....I want to change my fork valving stack.

My question. Can I just take the fork off, turn it upside down, use an impact to remove the valve assembly at the bottom of the fork, revalve it, and put it back in?

I'm curious if I bought a RaceTech kit of the 2006 KLX300 (FMGV-2040, which is the part you have to buy of the 2006 KLX250S) would I get a valve that looks like the valve you see on their website? I just don't see apart like that on the fork breakdown on Babbitt's. I use Babbitt's to see a full breakdown of parts on the bike. I also use OEM parts always when changing things on my bike.

Thanks for any input.

Mike

A damper rod fork tool will make things easier:

A write up on how to do the valve swap:

has anybody done this with a writeup? I did my Versys a couple years ago & really like the result. I need to do the KLX (09). guys on the Versys forum showed how to modify the OEM valve and adjust the shim pack. I was hoping there would be something similar for the KLX.
