Default 2006 KLX 250 LED light upgrade

Has anyone installed LED lights into their 06-07 klx? I did the upgrade on my klr 250 several years ago and I was really pleased with the results. I'm only replacing the tail/brake, license, and dash lights. I'm not worried about the turn signals at the moment. I'm undecided on what color bulb for the dash would match the stock back lighting. So has anyone gone with LED lights in the dash and if so what color LED did you go with? Pictures would be great if anyone has done the swap, Thanks Fred.

Well I ordered some LED lights from superbrightleds. I ordered from the same place when I did my klr250 LED swap. I'm hoping once they show up I can get them installed by the weekend. I'll post up a brief overview of how I like the LED's and which color I end up going with.

I did check the amps each of the old bulb's draws. This is one of the reason's I'm switching to LED for the less current draw which frees up power for anything else I might want to put on the bike in the future.

Four dash back lighting bulbs each one is 1.7 watts x 4 = 6.8 watts or 0.5 amps

Neutral green indicator light in dash 1.7 watts or .012 amps

High beam blue indicator light in dash 3 watts or 0.22 amps

License plate light 5 watts or 0.37 amps

1157 Tail light bulb 8 watts or 0.6 amps
1157 Brake light bulb 28 watts or 2.07 amps

So I should be able free up some amps with doing the swap. The total of all of these bulb when on is about 52 watts. Fred.

I got some of the LED lights installed. I'm still debating on which color to go with on the speedometer and tachometer.

This first picture is cool white and seems the closest to the factory color.

This one is cool white on the speedometer and green on the tachometer.

This last one is green on both sides.

I think I like the cool white. I'm going to do some riding at night to see which color I like best. I did this in my garage with the lights off trying to see what I liked better. I think a riding test at night will determine the color.

I also swapped the high beam indicator and neutral indicator light as well for LED. The brake light and license plate light where also changed for LED. If anyone wants to see a before and after I could take a picture of the difference.

I'm going to check the current draw of these LED bulbs before I do the final install and I'll post up the difference over the incandescent stock bulbs.

I like the white. Is it a direct swap or need some additional wiring?

It's a direct swap. It's just a simple bulb change.

I used these for the back lighting. I ended up going with the cool white. There are 4 bulbs for the back lighting if you do the swap. The neutral light and high beam indicator use the same bulb if I recall correctly.

Question

I installed LED turn signals on my '06 and now my turn signal indicator light on the dash will not come on. Will changing that indicator light in the dash to LED help?

Do the turn signals blink when you turn them on? Did you change out the turn signal flasher relay to the LED specific one? I didn't change my turn signals to LED since they aren't always on. LED lights draw less amps so they need a different flasher relay.
