Default '13 KLXs Won't go into first.

I dropped my bike, somewhat hard hit, bent the stock shift lever, and now it will only go into first sometimes. Is there an adjustment I can mess with or did I break something? Every other gear shifts perfect and it hits neutral perfect. Re-bent the lever for now (ordered an aftermarket one) and it's not hitting anything, just won't hit first every time.

Thanks!

Ben

See the thread about the shift star, you need a new one and the older model is the better one.

His issue is more serious than poor technique.

Most likely it is a bent post that limits the shift fork movement. I had the same issue. inexpensive part and fairly easy fix.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with what is (in my opinion) the Achilles heal of the KLX: the transmission.

If it goes into a particular gear sometimes, it's not a broken shift star.

I agree with Dan, this is the most likely scenario.

Winner winner! Thanks a bunch, mine is slightly bent so that's why I can sometimes get into first.

Now to get the part and put it in!

Do you by any chance remember a part number?

I usually can't even remember how old I am, you'll have to look it up yourself. Bikebandit.com , and other sites, sell OEM parts, and have the factory parts fiche available to look at online.

Glad it wasn't something worse.
