10% Ethanol...look out
So I was at a Yami dealer and talking to this kid who races ATV'S and he began telling me about the problems with ethanol additives to gas. Evidently, in the spring of 2006 all of the gas manufactures had to give up MTBE and are beginning to use higher amounts of ethanol to boost the octane ratings. Many are at 10 % now and it's beginning to cause problems with conventially aspirated carburetors. The gas will turn more quickly ( read: gum up the carb) and he was recommending running the carb dry at the end of each outing if your not going to run again in a day or two. His shop has also started to add stabilizer to their big tank and he recommended that too. He also said that Exxon premium only uses 5% ethanol in Jersey, but it varies from state to state. I think the pumps have to indicate somewhere what the ethanol content is now. I'm going to start paying attention to this. They have had quite a few bikes in lately running poorly after Hess fill ups!! No Hess for me. Thought you all might like to know.
