I'm brand new to cycling and have a '09 KLX250S. I keep reading about mods for these bikes. The three main ones seem to be something with the air intake, new exhaust and carb jetting.

I'm not a mechanic but am fairly handy. Are these mods things that I would be able to do or would I need to take it in somewhere? The carb jetting sounds a bit in-depth.

On a side note, if I upgrade the exhaust would I also have to jet the carb or mess with the air intake? Or could I just install a new pipe by itself?

Any other easy mods a guy could make?

Lastly, I don't like the rear fender. Can I just cut it off to shorten it?

here's a quick recap:

- whether you do the mods is up to you or not, whether you feel comfortable to pull things apart

- jetting the carb is fairly easy, its just a pain in the a$$ getting to it

- if you change the exhaust, you will want to mod the intake (no snorkle, kdx snorkle, no lid, new air filter (any or all of these options, for example))

- chopping the rear fender is the cheapest mod. you can also replace with the Edge kit
