Default '09 KLX250S rear shock oil weight?

I only weigh 130 and the rear shock seems too harsh over small bumps when running 30 - 50 mph on gravel roads or pavement. I've worked with the comp. and rebound adjustments and have it about as good as I can get it and I'm not a novice on these adjustments... :-) It's now a little soft on slow speed comp.

I would like to try a lighter oil before I get into lightening the high speed portion of the shim stack.I have all the tools needed to disassemble the shock except a nitrogen needle (will order that soon) and I have a proper nitrogen setup to recharge.

Any info on the stock oil weight?

Thanks for info, L D

Our KYB shock uses 5wt. There are 2.5wt suspension fluids out there, but I'd bet if you got it to work on your compression circuit, it would play havoc on the rebound. Revalving is really the way to go, even if you just play with the stock shim stack. I installed a Gold Valve kit in both ends of my bike, and it made a ton of difference for the better.

Thanks TNC, I thought maybe the oil was above 5W. I normally use 5W in all my forks and shocks so, as you state, time to lighten the shim pack. Did you happen to document the stock shim stack when your gold valves were installed?

I still have the printout from Race Tech, but without the compression piston/valve to go with it, it won't really be the same at all. Plus, I'm 190+ nekkid.
