Default 09 KLX250S (Aus) - Want to convert to moto

Hello,

Just recently purchased a 09 KLX250S here in OZ. I would
like to put some moto wheels on it, bring it in line with
the Kawasaki D-Tracker/KLX250SF equivalent.

Was wondering if anyone would know the actual rim size
widths ? I know the rims ar 17", but that is all i can
seem to gather. I am thinking that they are both 3.5" Wide
front and rear. If someone could verify that. It would be
great.

Also with the change in wheel and tire sizes on the front from
a 21" to 17"? Does any body know the easiest way to change the
Electronic Speedo to compensate for the wheels sizes to enable the
correct speed to be shown, etc.

Thanks in Advance

Gday mate, easiest way for me was I found a set of Dtracker wheels on ebay that bolted right up. The front is 3" wide, rear is 3.5". There is a member in Tokyo here that should be able to track you down a set.

Speedo wise, I hooked up a Trail tech Vapor. Search the threads, theres a fair bit of info on them. Easy enough to switch between wheel sizes on the vapor as well, just change the wheel circumference.

Tokyo memeber here, I can help with some info. The stock D-Tracker wheels are 17 x 3 front and either 17x3.5 or 17x4.25 rear, depending on the year. The wider rear wheel is a little harder to find, but can be found in time. Some of the guys over here even run a 4.5 on the rear with a 150/70 tire, but you have to offset the spokes to clear the chain. As for the speedo, the Vapor is the only option I know of to change the wheel sizes, I have not seen any info on re-calibrating the factory speedo. Another option may be to get a factory D-Tracker speedo unit, and install it, if the connectors are the same. I am in the process of searching for a set to sell, will let you all know when I find them.

Don't do that to a good dirt bike are you mad.

Why did you buy this type of bike and then put road wheels and tyres on it.

Not crazy for those long road trips. If you have both sets of wheels with rotors and sprockets, it is only a quick swap, and the handling on the highway at speed is so much better.

Motofan, g'day and welcome to KF. Like Gany I purchased D-Tracker wheels off ebay and I also have a Vapor fitted (electronic speedo). I don't know if they would fit the '09 it has a different swingarm and rims to the earlier 250's. Maybe someone who has fitted the rims to an '09 can chime in here.
Hows Rocky? I have been there a couple of times to visit friends at Yeppoon.
Cheers
