Default '09 airbox lid question

Well i am a member of another forum and i had mentioned that I had removed the rubber snorkel from the lid (snorkel only not the entire lid)of my air box cover. the jetting is stock as is the exhaust and a member replied saying that the bike is so lean from the factory that doing that could damage the engine. If this is correct then how much damage might have been done to it? also cant i adjust the carb to make it not so lean? thanks in advance. expect a lot more questions in the future.

If you just removed the snorkel and it is still running fine you probably haven't damaged a thing. You have to rejet the carb meaning you need to remove and partially disassemble the carb to change the needle and main jet. Then drill out the Welch plug over the idle adjustment screw and back it out usually to about 2.5 turns from fully seated. You can use either a DJ kit or just use KLX 300 needle N1TC and main jets. Which jets you use depends mainly on your elevation and other factors like temperature, humidity and modifications. There is a wealth of info on this website, TT, and Planet KLX. I'm in Virginia and ride between 1000 and 3000 feet ASL. I'm running a stock bike with the snorkel removed a 122 main jet, N1TC needle clip in third groove, drilled slide vacuum port to 7/64" and backed out the idle screw to 2.5 turns from fully seated. My bike runs great.

+1^

A re-jet is a must do IMO even if you leave the snorkle and lid on.
