I've used that Maxxis front tire with great results, and the rear has just as many great reviews. The only reason I didn't go back to a front/rear set of them is that they are not DOT. That's almost never a problem in the real world, but on a couple of occasions I have been checked by a ranger in Canyonlands north and south in Utah. These are national parks and maybe a little more attentive or at least **** about it. I've been in national parks dozens of times over the years with dual sport bikes and have only been asked about DOT ratings twice, so the exposure is limited.

By chance you didn't have that half gallon jug of tequila strapped to the rear rack did you ? If so i doubt they were really looking at the tires

My parts guy recommended the tire, cuz he had one. With no knowledge and no opinion, I didn't see fit to argue. As for the DOT rating, I'm thinking the same as you. I have a '69 Triumph rigid: rebuilt title, no front brake, no signal lights, no gauges, no mufflers, no problems.
I don't expect much attention will be paid to my tire choice on this one. ;p
