ORIGINAL: deej

Why doesn't Kawasaki just have the spring welded on the filter and charge another 25 cents each? I really think they dropped the ball on this one. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I believe my Suzuki dr250S was like that but cant remember for sure. I just use a little dab of white greese to hold the spring in place while I install the filter. Dont think its a big deal as long as your using just a Little dab. Id rather do that then lay the bike on its side.

The first time I think I tilted the bike, then I realized that I could put the spring right in filter without any problems. I think it's because on the second oil change I used a different filter.

Funny thread, when I was doing my first oil change, I was like WTF. I considered Firedude's technique of "super quick" but I decided to consume a carbonated adult hop beverage or two and think about it. With my inhibitations slightly reduced I tipped the bike over and just installed it. But I wasn't about to post my technique on this forum ....... I'll try a little grease next time which NEEDS to be this weekend. LOL

I hold the bike over my head with one hand and put the spring on the filter and install.

Someone, really clever, on another thread, mentioned that he simply took a pair of needle nosed pliers and expanded one end of the spring so that it sits under tension in the little receiving pocket inside the case. No more issues. I think I am going to do that next oil change.

I gave the spring a twist and it stays in place all the time.

I used a very small amount of super glue to hold the spring to the oil filter.

Wish I had my KLX during the 2 years I spent in hell... er, I mean, Florida. It would have made the time pass that much quicker.
