KFX440 Assembly Time!!!
I've given up the polishing for now. I want to get this thing together!!
At this point, I don't care what it looks like, I'm just ready to ride!!
Here is where I am now:
I had some pressure in the cooling system, so I pulled the head, and sure enough you can see where there are 3-4 spots along the gasket where the cylinder pressure was getting into the water jackets. Maybe even more now that I look at it.
Gasket
So off to the machine shop. My question is, should I have them deck the cylinder AND the head or just the cylinder? I haven't heard of anyone having a warped head, but I guess it can't hurt. (Maybe get me up near 13:1) :icon_biggrin:
Either way, here she sits waiting...........

Yes for every 5/1000th's of an inch taken off, you gain 3/10th's of a point of compression.
I will most likely get both done for piece of mind. I'm at 12.5:1 now, and I don't mind going up to 13:1

Awesome man... Ya I would shave 'em both. You're all ready there. How much can you shave without the valves hitting the pistons?? around 20/1000 ??
lol lol. I'm guessing that's pretty fast
it should run like a raped ape on the topend
I'm going to go ahead and say 20/1000th's sounds about right.
Right now I run the DRZ-E (dirtbike) base gasket from suzuki (the KFX400 motor is based on a suzuki DRZ400 dirtbike) that is 0.010" thick. I did this to raise the compression 0.9 points.
The stock base gasket for the KFX400 is 0.027" thick.
If I do get too close, I can switch out the base gasket back to the stock one and gain an additional 0.017" thickness.
