Default Turns over.. won't start

2005 Mule 3010 4x4 ... initially it would start, die out, start, die out.. then just turn over and not start.

Not a mechanic but trying to figure this out.. get spark.. plugs don't look bad.. not sure of fuel flow.. showing clean fuel in the filter.

Reading regular maintenance .. says to drain intake chamber .. just what is that? Took the hose out and it's slowly draining "gunk" out. Waiting for that.. nothing says how long to drain or why.

Prior to that .. loosened the cap on the fuel tank to see if it made any difference.. nothing. Wires to pump are good. Doesn't smell of gas while trying to start. Tank isn't full but has fuel in it.

Air cleaner has some dirt stripes, but also clear stripes on it.

Okay.. put the hose back on the intake chamber.. and it started up and is now running.. I'd love to know if that little bit of gunk that drained out did the trick.. and exactly what it is...
