2001, 1100 STX DI - Took it in this spring for service and the starter turns over normally but the bendix drive type gear is not engaging the fly wheel. Apparently they can gum up and stick close over the winter? The dealer is telling me they need to pull the block to get at gear for replacement ($$$). I have always stored my machine indoors. Anyone had this issue and is there any way to lube or break the gear free?

 

welcome to the forums Steve!! I can't help ya much there. usually, tho', once the solenoid sticks the gear shut, it's toast. Even if you manage to get thang unstuck, it's just going to do it again. JMO' tho....... Enjoy your stay, I'm sure someone on here knows more than me!!
