99 stx 1100 running problems
Hi all,
I took my 99 1100 out this weekend and had some issues. I recently purchased it used and it has ran flawless the first couple of times I took it out. Last time out (last weekend) it gave me trouble starting until we cleaned the plugs. I put new plugs in this weekend and it fires/cranks as it should but it seems to have a miss that I did not notice before. It idles ok but when I pull the throttle it wants to hesitate and then it will take off. When I hold the throttle wide open it will run perfect until about 39mph then it starts to die until it gets down to an almost idle.
It ran good for the most part all day (except for the dying thing on the first acceleration after starting) but towards the end of the day I felt like it was getting progressivley worse.
Could it be the spark plug gap? (i did not alter the new ones)
I put a small amount of sea foam in it with a full tank (wouldn't think that would be the culprit)
Are these common symptoms for this brand/type? I would like to not have to take it in to the dealership as it will be at $300.00 just for pulling in.

Since it happened right after you did some maintenance there is a possibility of an error on the part of the mechanic
Double check you work, make sure the plug wires are all secured properly and it wouldnt hurt to check your plugs while your in there.
If that all checks out a gradual onset issue at high RPM is usually (not always) a fuel problem, possibly the seafoam knocked loose some gunk and ran it through the system, next step would be checking fuel filter and a good carb cleaning.
Let us know how it goes!

Welcome to KF.
I am not up on ski's, but a weak battery and charging system on a ride will also cut out a high rpm run. Just tossing that out there as well as what was mentioned above, so good luck on your troubleshoot.
