Old Police bike electrical
I have a 1986 KZ1000 police bike that I finally got running, and then one day I lost all electrical except for the hazard lights. It happened when I turned on the left turn signal.poof nothing. I looked at the fuses under the seat and they all looked good. Is there a main fuse somewhere else? Any suggestions on what to do? I'm not exactly a mechanic....any help sure would be appreciated. RE: Old Police bike electrical
The trouble with older bikes is problems like these could be anywhere as wear and corosion take their toll. Most likely a dead short, live wire grounding to the frame somewhere. If it really started with the indicator that would be a good place to start by tracing the wires back as far as you can and disconnecting them but unlikely as the prolem would correct itself once you turned them off. The clue might be in the Police bike and the fact they ran all kinds of extra wiring which was probably just pulled when the bike was sold on. I suspect, like you, there is an extra fuse somewhere. At very least you need a multimeter to check the wiring (battery first then fuse and ignition switch and so on) auto electricians usually charge by the hour so any simple tests you can do would save time/money anyway. Good luck

Thankyou... I finally found the culprit. The fuse is not making great contact so after playing with it the ignition light came on so I have to clean the contacts etc but I got it working without taking it to a $90.00 an hour trouble shooter. I fear that many of the wiring connections could go out at any time because of its age.. But for now I'm riding...Thx for the help.
