ZX9 double bubble mod...
So I was bored one night and was feeling creative. I had been surfing pictures of the Kawasaki GP bikes and noticed how the GP wind screens are much smaller. My best friend has a 2005 R6 and recently replaced his stock wind screen with a carbon screen. I thought it would be cool to graft the stock R6 screen to my boring 9R speed screen effectively making it a double bubble. My original intent was to paint the 9R screen to match the bike and leave the R6 screen clear.
The painting part isn't going to happen very soon but the grafting turned out really well. The hardest part of the mod was tracing the lines of the R6 screen onto the 9R screen. I used basic masking tape to mark the cutting lines. I was very carefull to center the R6 screen. Once the lines were masked it was all down hill. I used my handy dremel tool to make the cuts on both the R6 and 9R screens. I used 4 of the original bolt holes on the R6 screen marking and drilling matching holes on the 9R screen. I used thin rubber washers between the screens and now it looks like it came that way. The Yamaha crest is still on the lower portion of the R6 screen so I covered it with the only appropriate sticker I had, a cherry bomb muffler sticker, a temp fix.
For the record no Yamaha's were harmed in the making of this project!
Here's a pic of the 9R screen masked and ready to go under the knife. The R6 screen can be seen under it.
The last pic is the finished product on the bike....

RE: ZX9 double bubble mod...
It really did turn out well. Before I started cutting the screens I had mentally prepared myself for the purchase of a new "double bubble" screen in the event it didn't go well. I do need to make some small adjustments to the fitting but it is fully functional.
I didn't notice a major reduction in wind shear on the highway but when I tuck against the tank at speed I can almost get below the slip stream of the wind screen. There is no buffeting at all in a tuck.
