Default ZX6R Poor Idle

Sorry if this has already been asked but i'm new to KF.
My 06 ZX6R was running really rough at idle, missing really badly and bogged down when pulling away. It needed a service so I changed the oil, oil and air filter and plugs. The air filter was filthy and one of the plugs was kinda carboned up and worn looking so figured this was the problem.

Once everything was in, it fired up and ran sweet for 200 or so miles. Then all of a sudden when idling it becomes very lumpy again. Not as bad as before but really obvious. It only happens when the temp guage gets up above 80 degrees and runs fine when moving. Still goes like a rocket!! Only at idle it seems to be noticable.

I'm worried it might be a coil away but thought i'd ask to see if anyone knows of this and a possible quick and cheap fix. If a coil was away i'd expect it to run bad all the time.

Any ideas folks?

Cheers

welcome to KF
you would not have any top end if the coils or the battery was in question. I need to check, but is there O2 sensors on the stock exhaust? Just throwing ideas out there.

Default O2 sensor

Not sure if it has an O2 sensor. I don't think it does but could be wrong. Top end seems fine, 8000rpm upwards it really pulls. I've tried altering the idle speed just to see what happens but it still stutters.

hahaha, had to look up glasgow as well.

Throw some of that FI cleaner through it to see if that helps firstly. There are some comments in the back of the manual for other possibilities though.

Hahaha, forgot this isn't a uk forum. Just put a bottle of that FI cleaner in it so will see how it reacts to that. Fingers crossed!

i would run some fuel injector cleaner with some high test gas & see if that will help, also what rpms does your bike idle at when cold & warm

Yeah, bike is still stock. I've tried the FI cleaner and the higher octane fuel and gave it a right good run today but still the same problem with the idle. It idles when cold at about 1900 rpm then about 1300 - 1400 rpm when warm.

Once warm I changed the idle speed and took it right up to 2000 rpm just to see if it still stuttered and it did. Might have to just give in and take it down to the dealership. DOH!!!

I'd check those plugs and see if one is fouled again, if so your probably runing rich,at least in that cylinder. You said it only happens when the motor is warm? is the radiator fan going when you experienced the problem? How long have you owned the bike?

oh, welcome to KF
