I spent all day today trying to get the airbox off the bike, so I could remove the carbs and change the throttle cable. I searched everywhere on the web and in the last 22 years I'm the first person to be stumped by this problem. Apparently the zrx1200r forum is no longer accepting new members. Any help/experience would be great ! Thanks
Thanks Kev, This manual was what I used, however the section that covers the removal says "•Disengage the front air cleaner housing [F] from the rear
air cleaner housing and remove it from the vehicle right side". The trouble is that the housing cannot be moved, even the YouTube techs just leave it, and remove everything around the carbs, and pull the carbs out. I'm seriously considering pods, and hacking the airbox out of there.
Hi wa6usa. The carbs must be removed first, then the air box.
Disconnect the throttle cables at the twist grip.
Loosen the 4 clamps on the engine side of the carbs.
Then using a long screwdriver push the air box boots down at the carb side. You’ll want to rock the carbs up at the rear keeping an eye on the air box boots, they want to end up under the carbs.
Rock the carbs until they’re free from the engine side manifold. Once free work them to the right side of the bike and disconnect the throttle cables.
Its difficult. I use 2 pieces of flat plastic, about 4 or 5 inches by 24 long ( at least long enough to span across the carbs). Slide these between the carb and air box boot first, the in front of the carbs after rocking them free from the manifolds
