Z650 Brake Upgrade - is this possible?
Hi
I have a 1983 Z650 (well she is a CSR650 to be truthful but basically a Z650 at heart) with a single pot single disc front brake.
Now I may be looking at this a bit simplistically but I am a bit tired of the 80's brakes (yes they work but don't inspire huge confidence) and my idea is this...
Keep the single disc - I don't want the expense of finding twin discs and calipers and lines and forks and splitter from a later model.
Fit a twin pot caliper from something else - whatever fits, Kawasaki or not, I don't mind
Fit an uprated master cylinder as my current one wont supply enough fluid
Tada!! - twin pot brakes on a single disc to bring things up to date a bit - I am not looking for superbike performance just a bit more than I currently have
Anybody else done this and anybody with any ideas?
any info much appreciated
Andy

Andy, I'd switch the master cylinder (or just re-hab the plunger and seals on the one you have), flush and install s/s line, thoroughly clean your caliper, and use a different compound pad. (Fresh fluid by itself can make a HUGE improvement.)

I tend to agree with the basics that Jeff mentioned. A yearly maintainance of the brake system will really help ya out. That will at least tell you if you and the ride are over powering your brake system. Single rotors are not a bad thing,
