Default won't start!

Hello

I have a KX125 and I'm still a new rider so bare with me...

I've been tuning this bike since I got it. I thought it was good last tuning, but I started it up today let it warm up, then tuned the pilot jet screw just a touch in. and then adjusted my idle screw to 1.5 turns exactly and I got a good steady idle. I got into first and tried to take her out. I stalled. twice. I'm new, and I blame the stalling on me being new....

But now I tried to start it up again and no go! IT wont start. It was fine just a second ago and now nothing.
I had earlier changed my jet to the most lean due to earlier problems. I checked the spark plug and it was good, a lil wet with fuel so i dried it off. I'm thinking I need to clean my air filter but i cant get the stupid wing nut off! currently waiting for my boyfriend to get home and help me get if off.

Also, i heard that when your compression drops down to the "norm" range on the low side its time to redo your front end. Is that true. cause I'm on the low side of my normal range. Its a 1989 and the front end has been redone before (previous owner did it)

ANy other idea PLEASE post.

Thanks all!

Hi Lyn and welcome.

The AF screw should be set and not messed with. You should probably refer to the jetting instructions and re adjust the AF screw to there recommendations. I am street rider so hopefully one of the KLX riders will chime in and maybe give you more info. If not post in the KLX250 section there are a lot of skilled people there.

Good luck

perform a compresion test on the cylinder to see what your cylinder preasure is . If it is with in the manuals spec then no need to bore
and ring the TOP END . Front end is you forks from the way you describe it . Wet fouled plug cause hard restarts and sometimes never with out a plug change .

hi all, thanks for the advise so far. I've been working on it this afternoon. i took the air filter out and gave it a start to see if that was my problem. May have been, cause it started up on the first kick

put the filter back in, tried again, started on 2nd kick. but my idle is all over the place. this was my earlier problem i mentioned before.
i tried to put my jet back to the middle grove, and adjusted my idle and pilot screw to manual specifics (1.5 turns out) but still my idle goes high to low without a reason.
I tried to adjust my throttle cable once i noticed that when i revved up my bike... the throttle goes normal when i turn the handle but when i let it go the bike acts like its going to stall. The idle drops really low. this isn't normal is it? it seems like this is the reason ive been stalling so easily when i do get the chance to ride it.

any ideas?
(im reposting my new problem in hopes of more ideas)

if your spark plug is wet....your probably running too rich. The irregular idle could be a sign a rebuild is needed. Do the compression test or take it to a mechanic that has a clue as to what he is doing.

I dont think tx was saying that you have no clue of what you are doing but rather if you chose to go to a machanic find one that is familure with these types of problems.

Good luck.

yes and no. She has already admitted that neither her or her bf know alot about bikes. So it could be something she did or didnt do.

Compression test was within range as I've said before. (accorrding to my manual specs) I'm working on her again today, thinking I'll check the reeds and hope i find something fixable.

do the compression test again. Things change. I think it would probably be cheaper and less frustrating to take it to a mechanic

I would never go to a mechanic. My boyfriend went to school for automotive tech, I"m covered!

Here's where I am on my bike...
I went through everything again and cross refrenced my parts. Turns out that the piolt jet and main jet are not the right size according to stock. So I've got the original sizes coming from my friendly kawi dealer. My air fliter is brand new and I did another check for leaks. No leaks.
So at this point I'm just waiting for my order to come in.
