Default Winterizing

I know for some of us it seems way to early to think about winterizing our bikes. I am hoping for a few more nice days here. I have a question for some of the more veteran riders out there or maybe not so veteran riders regarding the battery. Is it better to leave the battery connected or disconnected if you do not have a trickle charger for the battery when the bike is in storage?

I place the battery on the wood bench with the trickle charger.

Thanks for the info. This will be the first time that I have had a bike over the winter months and want to make sure it starts in spring.

Some people drain their fuel tanks because the gas will go bad, while other keep the tank full with additive to keep any rusting of the tank innards away. I am not too concerned about rusting in my locale, so I drain mine.

If no trickle, then pull the batt. Like drag said, put it on wood bench. Do not let the battery sit on crete.

Battery Tender makes a charger that shuts off automatically when the battery is charged and switches to maintain/float so you do not have to constantly check on the battery.

Sweet Thanks. i am waiting on some gloves for the colder days. Hopefully I will not have to store it to long. I am torn though. I want to save gas and take the bike but don't want the hands to go numb and lose feeling or not be able to pull in the brake or clutch. [sm=headbang.gif]
