Default Wheel weights

I got a 2009 klx250s with 3,400 miles on it couple months ago and just realized these little square wieghts on the rims. My question is what are they for? Did the previous owner put them on because the tires aren't like aligned or something? Can I take them off?

Those are for balancing the tire. Similar to how you use weights on car tires to balance them. If you right on the roads at speeds around 55Mph or so, I would leave them on.

I am actually looking to have wheel weights put on my bike when I get the tires replaced.
