Default vacuum and float valves

what are they for?
guess I should go check out www.howstuffworks.com
I'm guessing the vacuum valve is for sucking gas?

Default RE: vacuum and float valves

in carbs theres a vacuum piston (the black plastic pipe or slide in the carb throat). this is literally vacuum controlled be a diaphagm and spring under the round plastic cap onCV carbs..

this lifts a needle that meters fuel into the main body at a given RPM and requirement.. this part is whats makes a CV carb exactly that.. Constant Velocity.. the piston drops slowly upon throttle shutting to not starve the engine and leading to a lean backfire, and raises kinda slowly (opening the needle) so as to not flood the engine or create a overly rich condition.. leading to roll-on stumble

the float valve is the little valve that meters the main fuel inlet and is directly connected to the float, keeping just enough gas in the bowl to cover the pickup and jets, but not too much to where it overflows into the motor.

and there ya have it. carbs 101.. to the best of my knowledge..
