Default Started engine up with low oil ( Manual specs off)

I recently did my first change on my new KLX230 ABS. The Kawi manual called for 1.2 quarts with filter changed. I know you're supposed to start the engine and let it idle for a few minus to get a " accurate" reading. To me, the manual seemed like 5 oz off from being topped off near top portion of the sight glass so ( in between the hash marks). The service manual online says 1.3, I know were splitting hairs. But It seemed from 38.4 oz, I had to pour in additional 5 Oz or so from my funnel to just to get it come up to the middle and near the top. Turned off the bike and that seemed perfect. I've always been hesitant to do warm readings, I know the oil flows and moves around it does come up a bit for a better reading. I should have listened to my gut when it stone cold and just poured more into it... Do you think there could be any possible extra wear or damage from being 5-6 oz low on oil? When I started it, it had oil in the lower portion of the sight glass.

It seems to run great, idles good. Maybe I'm being paranoid... It seems Kawi uses very conservative oil spec capacity numbers vs Honda. On my Honda CBR600rr, the manual calls for 3.1. I pour that in the same amount everytime, It's pretty much topped off and accurate to a T.

Bottom line 1.3 is the correct amount. The manual lies..... Now, I understand why dealerships overfilled bikes with oil lol.

No, no wear problem. No problems will happen unless the oil is so low the pump pick up sucks air. I would venture to say if your oil is over the top on the sighting window after sitting overnight you have too much oil. The manual only has you running the bike to fill and saturate the oil filter. The oil needs adequate time to settle to the sump before checking it.

Doing a bit more checking, the 300 is the same general engine as the 250 but with a bigger bore. The 250 manual calls for 1.5 U.S. quarts on an oil and filter change. Not 1.2 qt. Check your manual again. If you did an exact amount you would be 0.3 qt low. Still not enough to be any issue. The fact that the sighting window gives a range indicates flexibility by a few ounces. Again, check the oil after the bike has been sitting long enough for the oil to run back to the sump. Running too high can be an issue too, but I doubt being 2 oz over is any issue either.

I do the oil fill by using about the amount needed, then rely on the sighting glass to get about the middle of the range.
