Default revving issue...

Hey guys, I have an '06 636 and while im in second gear and I get up to about 10k RPM's the rpms shoot up like im in neutral... like something is slipping , but it is ONLY in second gear.. i've tested to see if it is the clutch (put it in a high gear at a low speed and gave it WOT) and it didnt slip.. I do have a powercommander and a muzzy exhaust, could it be my power commander? I'm not sure if the guy who had it before me got it mapped

It's the classic "cooked 2nd gear" syndrome. From constant 1st gear holeshots, the trans gear is done. Seems to happen most in 636 and ZX7. This is due to the amount of transmission movement that occurs from 1st to 2nd, skipping over neutral. 1st gear is for momentum from a dead stop, quickly moving to 2nd for any powering maneuvers. Redline in first, causes the trans to change orientation with excessive torque on all components, hence, trashing the 2nd gear when it "SLAMS" in...
Doesn't take too long to get where you are now. (sorry...)

Plus side: the oil pan style engine, allows access to the trans without splitting cases.
minus side: if the problem is in the primary shaft, you gotta split 'em anyway.

How would a power commander cause a "slip"? Hesitation, yes

I have not had the pleasure then on finding a ride like RonInFla mentioned.

ok i asked a guy at the Kawi dealer and he said it was the clutch most likely... he said you can probly tell by looking at my brake rotors because they have random groove marks (from stunting) so he thinks that the guy who had it before probly did lots of clutch wheelies and just wore it down.

what do you guys think of this?

oh and Ron in fla, I told him what you said about the gear being "cooked" and he said you would be able to tell if the gear was gone because it would chatter and ride very rough in second gear.. Which it doesnt, it just "slips" up at around 11k
