overheating and timing

i have an 81 kz650 and i was having trouble trying to figure out the timing marks and valve clearance do not have a manuel yet so i have just been shooting in the dark can anyone help me also three out of four of the ex pipes are extremely hot and the fourth is not.

That is definitely shooting in the dark with out a manual. No, I do not have that manual. Welcome to the forums.

sounds like there is no spark in the fourth for what ever reasion what douse the plug look like out of the cold cyl. if you swap it with another one dose the cold cyl. get hot?

thanx for the help it was the cam tensioner. all fixed for now. any ideas on how to sync the carbs without a sync tool some macgyvering possibly

theirs a few ideas floating around here, but the easiest way is to umm buy a synch gauge, its cake to do

. I understand that the tensioners are weak, and will make some clatter while running. However, if the chain jumped a tooth or is wore out lets say or that the plug was fouled because of it, then I would understand your quote a little better. Readjusting the tensioner alone makes me wonder.

Synch tool: No need to Macgyver it, $100 will get ya going for a long time for the tool chest.

cam tensioner shaft was worn down added some weld to it. gets the job done till winter when i have time to rebuild top end completely, however it still overheats a bit and does still have a lot of clatter

NO JOKE added jb weld to end of the tesioner
