Only runs with choke open
Hi Guys,
I've just gotten my carburetors back from the shop completely cleaned. The bike had been sitting too long with old gas in it so having them cleaned was a must. I am faced with the same problem. The bike starts fine, will idle/run with choke open all the way. If I give too much gas or turn the choke off it dies. Any suggestions??

Let's assume they got out all the crud, and we can do an easy fix first. What model of bike do you have? I would drain the bowls (using the drain screws) until empty. (Screw the drains closed after you drain each bowl.) Then, I would turn on the petcock and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, so fresh stuff can refill the bowls. Unlikely, but it MIGHT be that the fuel didn't get the floats level when you reassembled. Fire it up, and see if it helps. (I'll assume there's fresh fuel in the tank and the fuel line has been cleaned of the old junk?) If this doesn't work, you may need to pull off the carbs and double check the jets for possible crud they missed at the shop. Not a huge deal; we can walk you through it.
