1992 KAW jetski 750, 1 carb.: Only runs when choke is on after rebuild
REQUESTING YOUR HELP PLEASE:
Our 1992 KAW jetski 750, 1 carb equipped: Now it Only runs when choke is on after carb rebuild.
Possibly the carb gasket is pulling air in, or loose, the pulse line was ckd for cracks and is intact.
Before the kaw shop rebuild it wasn't getting any gas to engine from carb, wouldn't run with choke closed either. Now runs with choke closed, but stops when it's opened.
Trying to get the shop to ck it but they are not interested as I installed in on the ski when they rebuilt it.
It is a factory carb kit rebuild.
Thanks for any help,

Ski runs only with choke closed, after carb rebuild ?
ANS:
1. The carb gasket was sealed and the re-test yielded better running of the ski.
2. Mixture screw adjustments are a next move in the spring.
3. Also still suspected is the 1 carb rebuild, it appears the shop didn't have any info on adjustments after teh mechanical parts were cleaned and a kit was installed.
4. Possibly the wrong kit was inastalled, the shop stated there were two kits one for th epump saide one for the carb side ?
5. The shop also mentioned finally after detailed questioning, that they don't have the manual for carb setup, when questioned by the ski owner.
6. They guessed at mixture screws and any settings.
That's the status, thanks for writing, we'd appreciate any insight,

Set both mixture screws at 1 1/4 turn out from lightly seated. U need a tach or good ear to set the carb. Start it in water (if it wont idle turn low speed screw in 1/8-1/4 turn).let it warm up for a minute. Set the idle to 1250 rpm. Adjust low speed screw until a nice smooth idle present. Re adjust idle to 1250. If it doesn't have full power at full throttle, turn high speed screw out 1/8 turn. If it makes it worse turn it in 1/8 turn at a time and retest. High speed screw should end up being about 1-1 1/8 turns out for best performance and acceleration and top end will be nice and smooth (no less than 1 or a lean condition will be present !!!).
Also, since they really didn't know what they were doing, check and make sure the mixture screws are in their correct holes. The low speed screw is the longer of the two.
Once running, ride for a bit and check plugs for nice tan color. White is burning lean (very bad), black is rich. If lean turn high speed screw out 1/8 turn. if rich adjust in 1/16 turn. Remember it will take a while to burn a rich plug clean.
Hope this helps.
