Default Light Issues Please Help

Hey everyone I have recently puchased a 2000 zx6r and for the first month or so it was running awsome, however I have recently ran into 2 light problems.

Problem 1: WheneverI turn on my high beem,I end up losing my dash, signal and tail/brake lights. This is a big problem for me cause I like it when people behind me know that I am braking or turning.

Problem 2: Whenever I take off and rev the bike up high I end up losing my head lights, dash lights, and brake/tail lights, however my signal lights still work. This problem also occures at higher speeds, ifI take off slow onceI hit 120km/h and up. To get my lights back I either have to slow down to a creep or stop completly and turn the bike off and back on.

I am not that mechanically or electrically inclined so I would like to find out the problem and try to fix myself before I pay someone to do it for me.

Cheers
Shawn

Sounds like badly corroded or loose electrical terminals are causing havoc in your electrical system. All I could suggest is you inspect your wiring for corrosion or bad connections. You don't have to be an electrical guru to do that.

If you have a lighting relay check that. When you go to higher revs, you load up the electrical system due to more ignition demans and aweak relay would possibly drop out when the voltage drop occurrs.
I would also suggest that you get a shop manual and look at the schematic to see where the relay is located.
The relay could be a common switching component for your cluster lights, tail lights, etc. You also may have a weak alternator which can only be checked at your local bike shop unless you have a digital volt meter. If you do have a DVM, check the voltage accross the battery terminals and rev the bike up, if you do not see an increase in voltage, you could likey have a weak alternator.

Good luck dude..........Rocketman
