ok i got a set of individual K&N filters i pulled the stock airbox and installed the filters took some modifying to get them on. now the bike starts good and idles nice however if i open it up it sputters and chokes im trying to get more power out of my zx7r what can it be? im working on getting a zx9 motor but until then ....lol

 

did you re-jet your carb(s)?

 

That is the same problem I was having. I just rejetted my bike this weekend and so far so good. I was hoping to really test it at the track but it rained so hopefully next Wednesday I will know for sure if my 7 is running right. I will put up an update next week. But this is what I have.

I have 2003 ZX7R
K&N Filter
Scorpion Slip on
Factory Pro Jet Kit
Geared 1 down in the front and 4 up in the back.

 

Re-jet the carbs and make sure you did not over oil it either. To lean or to rich form over oiling can be a killer.

 

how easy is to re-jet it can it be done at home or is it better to take it to the over charged dealer...lol anyone knows how to doit?

 

Not to bad to do your self. check out www.dynojet.com or http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/index.htm bothe sell jet kits and instructions on how to install. F- the dealer. If you have a little know how and enjoy working on your bike this is a good mod to do yourself.

 

rejetting is pretty simple. i recommend pulling the carbs completly off the bike, but you don't have to. to do that you just unhook the throttle cables from the hand control then they will come off the carbs with no problem.

 

Agreed that installing a jet kit is pretty straight forward. I becomes a little time consuming when dialing it all together. Seat of pants low range, mid range, high range runs and plug chops. Write down your settings as you go with a small reasoning on how the ride felt next.

I was happy with shimming the needle and then finding the correct size main jets while running at sea level.
