How do I test my stator and regulator/rectifier?
I have a '03 ZR7-S and need to know how I can SIMPLY test the stator and regulator/rectifier -- I'm definitely not a bike mechanic but I do know just enough about bikes to be dangerous.
I've gone through a couple of batteries quicker than I thought I should and then was told to disconnect the + connection to the battery while the bike is running to see if it's an issue with something else -- if the bike stops, it's supposedly either a bad stator or rectifier at fault. Sure enough, my bike dies as soon as I disconnect the + lead so it appears that the bike is drawing it's power only from the battery (or so I've been told).
Can someone tell me how I can figure out what needs to be replaced?
Thank you!

Get a volt meter and put it on yer battery. Should be charging at 14.5 volts (dont have a service manual at the moment) I couldnt tell you how to check the regulator without a service manual. do a google search. Make sure yer battery is charged fully or brand new before you do these tests. Its possible to have a brand new battery thats bad.
