Default Honing

I'll be honing the cylinder walls this weekend and was just wondering if I should worry about oversizing the bore too much. I have new rings but they are standard size, I'm just going to be de-glazing the walls and making them a bit more round.

I am not a mechanic, but honing will only take the glaze off. If you hone too much, you will do more damage then good.

To get them "more round" you would have to have them bored. Then you would need oversized rings to match, and for good measure, new oversizedpistons to match.

Usually the problem isn't "roundness", rather it is scratches in the surfaces and top to bottom taper of the cylinders.

My son just had his car engine in the shop. $25.00 a cylinder to bore them - ended up 50 over to get them straight and "round". New pistons and rings, too.

It all depends on what you want to accomplish and how long you want it to last.

Either way, good luck!

Mike

you can oversize it with a ball hone if you sit their for a few days, the best way like cougar said is to throw it on a boring bar,
