I have a 1986 Ninja 600.
I'm preparing to pull the motor, split the case, and fix a shifting problem.
I can shift into 1st, but not 2nd or above. I think I have a bent shifting fork. I've already checked under the external shifter plate and all the springs, pawls, and drum look okay.
I'm an aircraft mech. by trade and have a lot of experience in cars, not the transmissions though.
Any advice for a first-timer with motorcycle transmission repairs?

 

And of course, I'm armed with both the Chilton and Kawasaki shop manuals, a full load of metric tools, but no special Kawi transmission tools.
