Default Gas Tank Rust Problem & Good manual

To wise ones,

I am in the process of reviving this project bike that I bought to practice bike repair - Kawasaki Ninja 750R (ZX750F) 1989. Now the next assignment is my gas tank has rust problem that I have to deal with.

There are many method of cleaning the gas tank but what was your favorite method and simple way to clean the gas tank rust?

I already ordered a Kreem rust removal kit. I also have a bottle of Navel Jelly on my shelf. My wife prohibit me from using her dryer (water and sand shake method).

Also looking for a good service manual and parts manual but only decent manual I could find was
this unknown manual -- Kawasaki Ninja ZX600, ZX750R Repair Manual 1985-1997 for $24.46 from themotorbookstore.com.

If you know any good manual or good source for the service manual, please let me know. Clymer didn't have manual for this model. Haynes manual was for newer Ninja and the illustration was not accurate.

Before I start taking carburetor apart, I want to have at least one manual on hand.

Thanks.

http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcycles/1989/34/6/4973 Here's you some options on the manual. Usually ebay has some elecronic manuals, or manuals on disc, pretty cheap...

I usually use murautic acd ( however you spell it ) and shake it in the tank. But don't leave it in too long. If the rust is bad enough it will eat right thru the tank....

The factory manual is always the best to go with. More money, but worth it.

Muratic Acid is evilllll.......be careful with it...wear eye and hand protection at LEAST! and just think people make meth with that crap!

And you can pick up a cheap hair dryer for about 10.00 if you really need it.

i had a rusty tank on my old ex 500. i took a piece of chain and diesl fuel put it in there and shook it up really good. then flushed a couple more times with the diesl fuel then used the coating wich i forgot the name of. i found it at a radiator shop. coated the inside with that and let dry. it was fine after that,

Bump of an old thread:

My 07 KLX250 has been set up in storage for a few years, unfortunately I didn't leave it with a full tank & it's full of rust. I've already ordered all new lines & filters for it. Has anyone used CRC Evapo-Rust to clean their tank? If so, how do you clean it out & keep it from rusting before you start using it?
