Cold START
Hey here i am with another post. For a 1996 zx6r, Its not starting up. Now it is really cold out which will probably be a factor. I had it started last night and it was idling fine. Now i went to change the spark plugs and the idiot who was helping me pulled by the wire and the wire ripped off. Now it looked liek this had happened before, he ended up pushign it back on and said it would be fine, we started the bike back up and everything was fine (Bike was warm). Now I come back home in the morning and try starting it and it just keeps turning over. Every few times i try it starts up but at a really ugly sounding kind of low idle and just shuts down no matter where i put the choke. Now i wanted to get a tune up on the bike but the shop said im looking around 800 dollars which i dont really want to fork out for a small starting issue (unless i have to). I didnit end up changing the plugs on the bike, but i read a few different forus concerning the same problem and I think it may be the spark plugs. Anyone out there have any suggestions?? Thanks for your help!
Alright well it backfired but i came back to the bike 3 hours later and tried it with choke on full and it started, idled for 5 mins then died then started again in a second then took choke off and it was fine...must be just because of the engine is so cold and the bike has high km (49,000)
my 7 hates the cold. my 600 hate the cold as well. if its carburated, chances are it will loathe low temps.
with that wire being yanked out, chances are the integrity of the insulation was destroyed, and any condensation will leak the spark to ground.. actually, you may not even need condensation to leak the current...
theres alot of variables to your situation man... the cold has an effect for sure.. you can try puting it in a garage with some heat and let it stabilize..... if it still acts stupid, then chances are you'll need to replace those plug wires.. perhaps look into your carbs too. sounds like the choke circuit isn't quite up to par either..
good luck bro!

First thing I'd do is change the gas. Any more, it seems like (especially in a bike) if you don't run them every week or so, and/or keep fresh gas going thru it, the gas goes to crap and your bike sounds like a strangled duck with flatulence.....
