I sprayed starting fluid in the intake and it fired right up but the motor ticked loud and died after the starting fluid burnt up...?

I am thinking valves and carb work but not sure....

thanks for the welcome BigRig!!!

could be valves. Probably carb/fuel work on starting/running issue. Has the bike been sitting a while? On a dry start with old oil, sure could cause some ticking.

ha ha ha...I replied to your other post as well.

If you are mechanically inclined at all, the carbs are not that hard to do. The vavles are not hard, just time consuming. We have a good valve thread around here, I could find for ya if you are interested in trying to do it yourself.

Don't qoute me on it, but the carb rebuild and sync would prob be in the ball park of $200-250..... Valve adjustment prob around $350-400.

But like I asked before, has the bike sat a long time? Have you owned it for a while? How old is the oil? What viscosity of oil is in it? Is it car oil? Is it ticking because of dry start and old oil from sitting for a while?

I would start at the carbs and fuel system. Get that clean and refueled with fresh fuel. Get the bike running so oil can circulate, and go from there.

The guy I got the bike from said he road it one day and the next day it would not start so he changed the cdi, plugs and he was thinking it was the coils...it sat a month or two and now It is my project!!!

I just went out and checked the oil and it was low and old so i dumped new oil in it and it sounded fine.it ticks for a second now but i thingk that the starting fluied because it stops right away...

Gotcha. I merged your two posts together.

Valves are probably good. Change oil and filter. Use motorcycle oil, you don't want to burn out that clutch.

Clean carbs and fuel system, and should be good to go.

lol.....

You want the entire fuel system ckean. pull tank, have to anyway to get to carbs. Clean tank, put in fresh fuel. Make sure fuel filter gets replaced. Pull carbs and clean them GOOD. m/c carbs have so much smaller openings than cars do, so it's really easy to get gummed up, dirty. Grab you a couple of cans of carb cleaner, and go to town. Check float heights, etc.

If you can rebuild a carb on a car, then you can on the bike, just a little bit different procedures and everythings a little smaller.
