Default Brute Force Problem

Hey guys, newbie here. I have a question that i was wondering if maybe someone could assist me with. I took Brute Force 650 muddin labor day weekend and it was runnin fine and all, then all of a sudden it would not go over 20 mph on average. It took a while to pick up speed, it seemed like it lost ALL bottom end speed and had very little top end. I cleaned the air filter and wiped out the air filter box. Now, when i run in in neutral and rev it, it backfires constantly one after the other when the throttle is at about half way. Any suggestions? Thanks its greatly appriciated.

I would think a carb cleaning is in order especially if you had to wipe out the air box.

+1. I would also look at all the vacuum lines. Somthing could have worked loose.

there is no carb, it's fuel injected. One of the spark plugs was filed and i put some dry gas in my tank in case there was water. I'll check the vacuum lines but I just ran it and its runnin alittle better, but still not good. I'm gonna check the other plug in the am. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks to those who replied.

ok guys, its happening again. I went through some water, wasnt that high. and the quad is lagging power and backfiring. I bought a new air filter and that didnt work, i syphoned out the regular gas and filled it with premium. that didnt work.

I noticed that when i have the airbox lid on but not "clicked" down, the quad revs fine with no backfire, however when i click it down it backfires. Also, i noticed that there is an air line running to the carb that splits into two lines and each goes into one side of the carb. There is abreather that has dirt in it, should i replace that. It's just a plastic piece with one inlet and two outlets for the tubing to the carb. When i blow in one side gas shoots out of the jet, when i blow in the other you have to blow pretty hard. Could this be dirt because the air line doesnt connect to anything, it just hangs under the airbox. Im gonna blast them out with gum cutter and see if that does anything.Any suggestions, I reallly dont wanna spend the money for the dealership to do somethin that i could have done for a whole lot cheaper.
