Bike problem !!!
Hi everyone , this is my first visit here and first post , I live in Montreal ! (little introduction
)I need your help !
Just purchased my another bike and already have a problem
its a 2001 kawa zx-6r with 14K kms on it !
Today I tried starting it but it wouldn't do so , I mean it does start when I choke it and maintain it a stable rpm for about 5 - 10 seconds then the rpm starts dropping little by little till the bike shuts down !
( yes I do close my gas valve when bike is off )
the one way to keep the bike running is by holding the gas , otherwise the choke doesnt halp

Im new to kawa , had yamaha before and it was a little differnt...
maybe im doing something wrong but I really doubt it , although im only human !
help will be very appriciated ... thanks in advance
sounds like tis losing fuel.. check the fuel filter .. check the petcock.. make sure fuel if run through it good.. if everything looks good.. try cleaning the carbs.. you may have a little bit of a blockage..
No problem - if it wasn't meant in a rude way - I'm a little uptight today (normally wouldn't have commented on something like that), getting nervous about the bike course this weekend (actually it starts tomorrow)
Did you figure out whats wrong with your bike?

Holding the throttle open a bit allows fuel in from the larger main jets to let the bike run. Sounds like your pilot jet/jets are cloged not allowing the bike to runat idle. Best bet clean carbs
The motorcycle has a pilot jet and a main jet in the carborator stack. Once the bike is running the main jet supplies the fuel and air misture.
However when starting the bike , it relies on the pilot jets for fuel. If these are clogged it will be very difficult to start. But once started, there is no problem because the main jets take over. Try a carborator cleaner, mixed with gasoline, make sure it's motorcycle approved, otherwise the mixture could melt you intake manifolds., or possibly have the pilot jets air pressure cleaned.
