Bayou Overheating

Hi everyone,I am having trouble with my 1998 kawasaki 300 bayou 4x4.It is air cooled.I have worked on atv's a lot but this one has me stumped. It gets too hot to sit on when I ride it slow.I thought it might be the exhaust so I took the muffler off because at night the pipe would glow red, didnt help,I rechecked the timing.that didnthelp.. ANY help would be great and thanks..
Tony

Dang, I need to sit on the sidelines to think on this one.

All stock heatshields and guards are still in place? Any mods done?

Yes all stock guards are in place.I did put a wiseco piston in. It wasoverheating before though.Everything else is stock just like it came from the factory. It runs and idles good.
