97 zx6r Help With upgrades

Unhappy 97 zx6r Help With upgrades

Hi im tired to been beating by my friends bikes on da street i like to ride hard but i can keep up with then and i a kawi fan until the dead so i have 97 zx6r that i dnt want to change the bike for now but i really want to do some upgrades to put this bike to run harder but i don't know what to put on it cause i dnt want keep buying parts that in the end its not gonna help me in nothing they bikes are a 2002 gsxr 600 m and a 2007 gsxr 600 i just want to know what i can do to my bike to at least keep closer to them bike cause we gonna start drag race our bikes soon i got k&n filter,yoshi slip on with stock header ignition advancer 520 chain convertion 14 tooth in the front and 43 in the rear power pilot Michelin tires but now before i change the sprockets my bike could go up to 170 easy but now its only reach like 150 so i think i go to buy stock 520 for the rear and leave the 14 tooth in the front please guys i know one of you can help me out with this please dnt ignore me Thanx in advance with any help you guys can gave me.

Welcome to KF. I have not ridden the late 90's zx6's to really know what mods would be appropriate for you. But good luck.

What was the stock rear sprocket before you put the 43? If you added more teeth, this will increase the bottom end but will take away the top end. By the way, the 1997 ZX6R will not go 170. The speedo on these bikes is about 10% optimistic. If you are going to drag race the bike, I would stick to the 43 sprocket. But, to make a late 90s sport bike beat some 2002 on up bikes, maybe nos would help. Practice your hole shot, its very important. This drag race will be happening at a track correct?
