1997 ZX6R Engine swap to something newer
Hey everyone,
I have a 1997 ZX6R, the engine is totally dead,
i opened it, there is nothing really left to rebuild so i have to get another engine.
now i'm thinking if i get another 1997 engine, it will probably wont last long,
and - if i'm already going to do all the work of changing an engine, why not get something newer?
it will surely be in better condition and have more power.
question is - which engine fits easy enough?
im not against minor changes to make it fit...
the option that comes to mind first is the newer ZZR up to 2006
anyone ever done this or has an idea of the needed work?
thanks for your help!
Sergei.

well, a piston hit some valves and made a huge mess...
valves broken, head had holes and a big crack, 1 cam is bent
rod is bent, piston doesnt even look like a piston any more,
a sleeve is out of its place and the place when the sleeve sits is bent and cracked
im not sure about the crank, maybe its has damage as well...

Check the part number on the microfiche, anything with the same frame should fit. The ZZR matches the 98-02 ZX6R as I recall so it may not be a quick swap, but dont take my word. Maybe look into larger motors of the same year, as long as they have low miles and you do a good rebuild it should last you quite a while. Or you could take the money you were going to spend on the new motor, part out the old ride and get something newer. Oh the possibilities! Good luck, and welcome to KF!
did you look up the part number for the frame? Any engine from a bike that has the same frame SHOULD bolt up, I dont know if they changed mounting points on the motors. Get some picks up when you get a chance, let us know what you decide.
