1997 ZX6 Fuel Problem
I have a 97 Ninja ZX6 and I went to the gas station, noticing after I filled it up (no more than normal) that the overflow had a constant stream of gas coming out, I figured I must have overfilled the gas, I rode about 4 miles and stopped, realizing the overflow still had a steady stream of gas coming out. I turned off my bike and the stream did not slow down, so I turned the gas completely off and it still did nothing! My bike sat there turned off and gas turned off for about 1/2 hour and the overflow kept on pouring out gas. I pinched the overflow so it couldn't go out, and then gas started coming out of the cap down the side of the bike, keep in mind the bike was still turned off! Can anyone please help me figure out what is wrong with my bike?!?!
thats bizzare...
your 97 should be the same as mine except... does yours have the california emissions stuff on the fuel system. charcoal canister etc? if so the fuel could have filled up the canister and started draining back int othe gas tank at the cap. resulting in it pouring out the overflow or out around the cap.
was the gas station on a slope rather than flat?

I live in PA and I don't think it's a California bike.
I got gas on a flat surface at the gas station... so I'm not sure how this is happening. I've looked it up & I can't find any info that someone else has had this problem.

where ya at in pa? i got a cali model ZX-6, and i'm in the Wv/Md area!!.. if you're close enough, i might be able to swing over and look at it..
you can tell if you have a cali model by pulling the seat off. the cali model tank has two additional fittings sticking out bellow seat level. they actually run up the inside of the tank to the fill cap.
Cool! A problem I have never encountered b4. lol....... I am curious to know what's up with that. Sorry tho, can't help ya. Wierd.
Tell me fellas, you know how most tanks have a vent line, overflow, etc.....what would happen if those got crossed?

I live in the PGH area, but I have my bike with me in University Park, PA. I could put a pic up if that would help, I'm not real familiar with how this bike works. I have three hoses coming out of the gas tank, one is the overflow, and the other two are the fuel line & the vacuum line. Those two are on the right hand side of the tank and the overflow is on the left. Does that mean this is not a CA bike? because there's nothing else running out of the tank besides those three.
ahh.. born and raised just outside of the 'burgh!!!
maybe i can swing up there and look at that thing.. gotta be something simple...
i could meet ya in irwin.. my sister lives there, and i'll just use the brother-in-law's tools..lol
