Are you referring to the stator, which is part of the alternator, or the starter motor?
Both can be rewound by a qualified auto-electrician (a GOOD one that is) and there are probably companies near wherever you are that specialize in that work.

I'm actually not sure what you mean. That could be ignition pick-ups, a magneto, the alternator stator or some other thing. Could you post a picture of what you're referring to so we can be certain?

Up by the handlebars? I doubt it. They're most often under the tank. It is the thing the ignition lead goes to, or at least it's supposed to.

See if this helps you: KX250 Manual

I do not have a manual on your ride, I would suggest you get a manual on your ride firstly. Then in the electrical section it will tell you how to test your stator coil. Example: Bk/W-BlkY 432-648 ohms. W/R-W/Green 7.7-11.5 ohms. Then it goes on to explain the resistance readings. "If there is more resistance than shown in the table, the stator has a broken wire, the leads between the stator and the connector are open, or the connections are bad. Check the stator and the leads, and fix or replace the damaged parts." If there is much less resistance than shown, the stator is shorted, or the leads between the stator and the connector is grounded."

My example ohm and quote is from my 1988 kx250 manual. I checked the numbers on my kx 60-kx100 models from '88-2004, but there are ohm differences in comparison. So try to find the correct ohms for your model and the procedures are pretty much all the same on the troubleshooting.

I linked you to an electronic on-line copy of the workshop manual. Taking the time to give it a good read will answer a lot of questions over what part is where, what it does and what it's called. Give it a read.
