1989 kawasaki ninja 600
Hello everyone!!!
I have a question! I bought a used ignition for my 1989 ninja zx600r and the igniton is from aGPX but the hook ups are the same so i hooked it up all the lights work but the engine won't turn over. Would this be because the ignition is from a GPX and not zx?

What do you mean by the engine wont turn over? Do you mean that the starter will not engage, or that it will spin but not start? Either way the problem should not be in the ignition switch, the key cylinder does nothing but complete an electrical circut, and unless there is some anti-theft device that is different between the two models there should be no problem. Look up the fiche and compare part numbers from the two bikes, that should give you a good place to start. Good luck, and welcome to KF!
Thanks for responding!!!
The bike started before i changed the ignition! The guy who i bought it off had a toggle switch bypassing the ignition that's why i changed it! peolpe tell me the GPX and the ZX is the same model and i'm not sure if this ignition that i put on has anti-theft on it. Would there be extra wires if it did?

That; welcome to KF. I think it sounds like your ignition swap works? Always be careful swapping electrical components between bikes. If you're not absolutely certain that the specs are identical, you can start smoking wires, blowing fuses, and replacing components which cost much more than the money you saved.
(BTW, electrical fires begin with white smoke and are scary as hell when you're riding down the road.....)
Welcome to KF. Gear up, stay safe, and pack a B/C rated extinguisher.
