I have a 1978 KE100 that runs great but won't charge the battery, 6 volt system. It has an unusual charging system. It does not have a voltage regulator. It does not have a standard stator. It has 3 separate coils where a modern stator would be. One for lights, one for ignition, one for battery. The rectifier is just a diode, which has also been replaced. The original battery coil was not charging and didn't ohm test proper, so I replaced it. I was very careful to hook both wires back up properly. The weird part is if I start the bike and put a meter within a foot of the bike I get voltage readings. The readings bounce from 2 to 20 volts, whether I am touching the battery or not. Someone told me that the magneto may need to be polarized before it will start charging properly. Does anyone know if this is true and/or how to do it? Any info is greatly appreciated, it's driving me nuts. Thanks.
