Default 1976 Kawasaki KZ750 occasional high idle problems!!!

my motorcycle (1976 Kawasaki KZ750) after warming up, when I rev up the engine and let go of the throttle, the bike continues to rev up and won't come back down til I put it in gear and release the clutch. How can I fix this? I have no idea what the problem could be? Any suggestions? thanks!

Cable sticking? Air leak in the carb boots? Have the carbs been taken off of the bike recently?

I don't believe the cable is sticking from what I've seen. There was an air leak in one of the carb boots on the air-intake that was wrapped with some old duct tape. I replaced the tape with much better tape just to see if it ran better when the hole was plugged. (I'm planning on replacing the boot either way though). It seemed to help. As far as I know, the carbs have not been taken off recently. The bike sat for 2 years w/out being ridden and there is a small gas leak that come from the bike after driving. I was told the carbs most likely need to be rebuilt and the gas leak my fixed by synchronizing the carbs....

I had a leak while sitting as well, but mine was from the fuel valve. They are easy to rebuild though, maybe 15 minutes.

A good carb cleaning and float adjustment is recommended then double check the synch.

Enjoy and know your service manual. Makes working on them so much more pleasant.
