1500 time bomb, is yours one ?
To all who have the plastic oil gear pump ... are you worried ... or are the % of failures the same as winning the lotto? i read the reason they fail is from clutch spring tabs extend past bottom of clutch basket and make contact with oil pump gear , keeping it from rotateing , causing the teeth to strip ... is there any way to keep them from extending ? is clutch wear causing them to extend and contact?

RE: 1500 time bomb, is yours one ?
I have 18000 miles /96 classic The years of the plastic oil pump gear is87 to 99 word out there is the gear fails and if you don't shut down the engine in time extreme damage will occur,............... just wondering should i spend an extra $1000.00 on somthing which might never fail ? anyone know the failure % of this problem ?........... What i plan on doing is .............. connect a relay to oil psi switch (red dash light ) use the nornallyclosed contacts in series with the kill switch , when oil light comes on for any reason bike shuts down , as long as i pull clutch in , the only thing i will have to fix will be the oil pump gear (if it ever happens to fail ) ... i will have to put in a 2nd relay and normally open contacts to be energized by the start button ,to over ride the red light , when starting , (red light is on before starting -pump has not produced any pressure yet) WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ?
