Stalling when cold
91 ZX600-D2
(got the rusty tank all cleaned and lined)
Just ran into a new problem.
Son went out for a ride to the grandparents house.
Temp outside about 55, after dark, highway speeds (70 mph).
Bike idles to get warmed up, runs like a champ. Several miles later, bike temp begins to fall, goes down to "cold" and stalls out.
Off theside of the road, let it warm up, take off, a mile later, bike temp starts to fall, goes down to "cold" and stalls.
Repeat.
I didn't realize these thing were that touchy on running temp.
Is it a bad thermostat? Like in a car?
Reservior is between hot/cold level?
HELP!
Mike

Okay,
Got someadvicefrom the "General Tech" section.
That being said......
System has been closed forever, as far as I know. Bought it used with 20000 miles on it.
Bike has never been ridden in colder temps by us (55 degrees at 70 mph after dark= what? 30 degrees).
Pulled the faring cover and checked the coolant. Reservoir is full and filler is full to the top. Decided to pull the thermostat. Not sure what the temp is supposed to be, but this is the FIRST thermostat that I have EVER been able to push open with just my fingers. Good or bad, it is getting replaced!
In hind site, it has been running a bit on the cool side since we got it and started ridding it.
Thanks for the suggestions. I barely lost any antifreeze when I pulled the thermostat. I will be extra carefull when I replace it and fill it.
What temp is the thermostat supposed to be?
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the info! Typical 175-180 thermostat.
As I said, Never been able to open one with my fingers!
I can get that cheaper at the parts store rather than the $30.00 that Kawi dealer wants for it.
Thanks again,
Mike
