After every 2 week shift i come home and my bike wont start.

I turn the fuel off but what else do i need todo?

How do i start it properly rather than just cranking it over and over?

Thanks

Turn off the fuel and run the fuel out of your carb bowl before shutting it down, or drain & refill the bowl before trying to start. Many of us ream the starter (enrichment) jet a little (to 0.018-inch), a measure that has a good track record of improving startup.

It would be SO EASY for me to blame the crappy gasoline, .....but two weeks is still within normal limits. The KLX guys on here have a patented starting procedure involving su****ious fluids, unintelligible chants, pushing the exact sequence of buttons and levers, unauthorized non-OE-approved modifications to the engine, and no two Forum members do it exactly the same. They're a very mysterious bunch.
Prepare yourself for a variety of solutions to your question......hang on.........

If you want the litany of other methods, post your question in the KLX250 portion instead of General Motorcycle Discussion. Not many of the KLX250 folks seem to look anywhere on the Kaw Forum other than the KLX250 area. You can also search for "starting problems" or similar under the KLX250 area and find hours worth of reading.

Hey this is merc on my phone.
How do i get the fuel out of the "bowl"?
Heres the pic i took of my spark plug. Comments?
Why would i bore that hole? So it burns richer? Will that overheat my bike?

You should be able to drain fuel from the bowl with a little allen-head screw on the bottom of the bowl. There's usually a little fuel line hanging off of it where the fuel will drain.

Your plug looks okay to me, but I'm not a good plug reader.

The hole that would be reamed just slightly larger than current is the choke/enrichment jet, which is pressed in. It cannot be changed. It will run a little richer ONLY when your choke/enrichment lever is activated. There are several good threads around here on it.

So from i can tell i would need to open that carb and drain all the fuel with a rag out of the "bowl"?

See the little screw at the very bottom of the carb in this pic below. No need to remove the bowl. The one screw at the bottom is a drain.

If you cannot find that, turn off the fuel an set the bike down on its side and some of the fuel will drain from the carb overflow lines. That often does the trick too.

5 days seems to be the point at which it becomes really hard to impossible to start if you didn't run the gas out. I've tested this for 5 years, trust me there is a problem with the gas.

Just turning the fuel off before you leave a bike does nothing except keep it from leaking out if a seal fails. You gotta run the gas out. Just shut off the gas next time a couple of blocks from the house, park it and let it die. Then the next time you go to start it ,.....it will start.
